If you want to learn how to expand your business with the use of article marketing then you will want to read this article.
First off why should you use online article marketing for your business. In my opinion there are 4 very good reasons
1. Instant Credibility/expert statues/ Authority
That’s right articles are a great way to let people know. Being the author an article has always received respect from society, for one reason or another Author = Expert. If someone wrote a book on fitness people automatically assume he is a fitness expert. With authoring articles it is no different especially if your article provides outstanding content.
With expert status you also will come off as an authority which will allow you to have greater influence over your readers as Robert Cialdini pointed out in his excellent book Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion.
2. Free Targeted Website Traffic
The traffic you will be receiving from the way I will show you how to use them will be the highest quality of traffic. Not only will that it be free traffic. By distributing your articles to certain sites that Google loves they will appear in the search engines results page (SERP) (more on this later). This is also called “bum marketing”
3. Link Power
Although I am not going to cover SEO in-depth in this series, articles can be used to add links and improve search engine page rankings
Pre Article Basics
Before you write the article you are going to want to know a few things. Such as what is goal of this article? You are also going to know what keywords you are writing this article for
Keyword Research
Someone once said keywords are the currency of the internet. I agree. The right batch of keywords in the right hands is worth a fortune. For article marketing purposes we are going to go after the Longtail Keyword.
What is a longtail keyword? A longtail keyword is opposite that short-tail/mainstream keyword. Long tail keywords are often 3 or more words
Example: “shorttail = gardening” “longtail = gardening tools for cheap prices”
While the shorttail keyword will get lots and lots of traffic, thousands mabey even millions of seaches per month do not have high conversion rates to sales because they are untargeted. Plus these terms are extremely competitive and could take years to rank for them so your chances.
Long-tail keywords while they have less traffic sometimes are not competitive and you can be receiving traffic form them within 24 hours
A quick lesson on how the average person searches
Let’s say john is looking to buy a pickup truck
Step1: John goes to Google and types in “pickup truck” From here he is taken to a big car site and looks around at the different. After a while he finds more of what he wants and information overload begins to set in so he goes back to Google.
Step 2: Back on Google he types in “cheap pickup trucks Massachusetts” he gets some more information and then again goes on Google to refine his search, yet again
Step 3: He types in “Buy 2010 Ford F-150 Massachusetts” the long tail keyword. Now there are much fewer results from Google and he is ready to buy or look carefully at this information. This is the term we want to get our article to rank for.
Now this is not how every person uses the search engines but it an idea of how people use long-tail keywords and why they are so targeted.
Getting Long Tail Keywords
We want keywords that get enough traffic and we are easily going to be able to get our articles to rank for using the power of the distribution sites and have commercial intent.
Keyword Checklist
- Keyword is 3-7 words long
- Keyword gets 300 searches per month on phrase match
- Less than 10,000 optimized results (when you type your keyword in quotes)
- There is Commercial Intent (Google displays ads when you do a search with the keyword)
I think the best way is to learn by example so lets say we have a gardening store and want to use article marketing. Now keep in mind I know practically nothing about gardening.
Step 1. Brainstorm Keywords to create your base list
Hands down “You” are the most powerful keyword research tool on the planet. So the First question you want to ask yourself is.
What would you search to find you?
Off the top of my head I would search example) “garden tools, gardening supplies, gardening tools, cheap garden tools, buy garden tools”
Step 2: Expand your keyword list using Google’s Keyword Tool for each of your base keywords

Step 3: Compile list and remove any keyword that has less than 300 searches per month and has more than 10,000 competing pages (This is where a tool like market samurai can come in handy)

Now that Is too much competition

Step 4: Marvel at Your Keyword list
Next Lesson I will show you how to Research and write the Article
